Just follow this video tutorial. It's ery short (less than 30 seconds) and you will know to draw a layout template.
This is very often necessary, but is also very simple. Select a tool for spliting div (SPLIT V or SPLIT H) and just click on a spot where you want to split div.
It is easy, select the div you want to connect and click on the adjacent div you want to connect it. Divs need to have a common edge.
Select a div, and select a range of commonly used name from drop down menu or just type using the name of your choice. This is simple way to assign name for module position.
Maestro gives you the ability to use the grid without any coding, just use the grid as a template on which you draw. Of course you can use all standard grids or using some of your more specific.
It is very easy to import the image into Maestro. You can import a picture in JPG, PNG, GIF or AnimGif format. Images that are in PSD format can not be imported and you have to convert them into some of the allowed formats.
This issue was raised literally millions of times on Google. Maestro Creative Template Designer, as always, has an extremely simple solution. Load the image, centering it to your specifications, turn off transparency to see the background image and draw module position over the image. When you're at it, define margins and padding, and you're almost create the Joomla template.
It is very simple. After you draw a module positions (consider whether you need the margins because they can not be added after the slice) go to the mode "Slicer." Transfer the image into a slicer panel (if it was in the background panel) and click on the "Slice" button.
You can create an unlimited number of module positions. As you can see on this video.

By recording the project you get the opportunity to work on your template whenever you need. If we speak the language of Photoshop then the Maestro project was equivalent of PSD file, a Joomla template would be the equivalent of a JPG or PNG file. So whenever you do have to save a template design that would later be able to edit the template without having to create it again. TEMPLATE can not be loaded in MAESTRO! Only a project can be loaded.
Installation of Maestro Creative Template Designer is very simple. If you have problems I suggest you watch this short video that will walk you through the entire installation.
